If you want to have a formative hand in shaping the future, you have to understand the present and learn from the past.

    University of Applied Sciences Wiesbaden

This new building with lecture halls, a cafeteria and a library was erected in Wiesbaden's Westend on the University of Applied Sciences' campus. Behind its transparent glass façade is the college’s School of Economics, which accommodates 650 students on 5,000 m² of floor space.

There is a pattern to be seen in block after block of the Wilhelminian-style façades in Wiesbaden. A second glass façade centered on the building was added to the first to mimic this pattern and fit the ensemble's frontage into the familiar urban grid. The old trees were left in place when the glass pavilion for seminars was erected on the inner courtyard. An open staircase with an expansive skylight engages the building's interior in a captivating dialog with its exterior.

It took a full five years of persuasion to convince the municipal authorities to issue the final building permit for this bold design.

Architecture is one of the fine arts. Our planning office attaches great value to the role of art in the public domain. This commitment is expressed not only in our efforts to preserve, restore and revitalize buildings of historic and architectural value. We also afford access to works of contemporary art at public places that are open to everyone. In some cases, works of art are acquired for the purpose of displaying them in or near suitable buildings for a wider audience to behold. In others, prominent artists are commissioned to handle the entire creative process from the inceptive design to its implementation.
