If you want to have a formative hand in shaping the future, you have to understand the present and learn from the past.

    Bockenheimer Landstraße

Bockenheimer Landstraße runs east to west into the heart of Frankfurt's banking district. This four-storey building is located up the road from the downtown skyscrapers, on a small square with an entrance to the Westend subway station. A quick comparison of its floor levels with those of the neighboring post-war era buildings shows the extent to which the standard ceiling height has decreased over the years.

This late neoclassical terraced home was built in 1874, making it one of the Westend's oldest extant houses.

Now on Frankfurt's list of cultural monuments, it was converted and renovated in 1987. The landmarked façade was restored with painstaking care in compliance with all the statutory provisions. Spacious and imposing, its rooms now serve as offices for smaller companies and agencies.

Architecture is one of the fine arts. Our planning office attaches great value to the role of art in the public domain. This commitment is expressed not only in our efforts to preserve, restore and revitalize buildings of historic and architectural value. We also afford access to works of contemporary art at public places that are open to everyone. In some cases, works of art are acquired for the purpose of displaying them in or near suitable buildings for a wider audience to behold. In others, prominent artists are commissioned to handle the entire creative process from the inceptive design to its implementation.
