If you want to have a formative hand in shaping the future, you have to understand the present and learn from the past.

    Hochstraße

Building no. 50 incorporates key elements of the prevailing style of a row of elegant residential and commercial buildings erected on the northern side of Hochstraße in the late 19th century. Greek-style engaged columns frame the ground floor's central entrance. The third floor features arched and gabled window canopies and a balcony with an intricate wrought-iron railing.

A fire destroyed much of the interior, including the wood staircase, in April of 1978. The roof was also heavily damaged. The first remedial measure was to restore the ceilings' load-bearing capacity by inserting steel girders and rebuilding the main double spiral staircase. The interiors were renovated, stucco ceilings restored and all sanitary facilities modernized.

Further efforts to modernize the building followed in 2004 when the elevator was replaced and fireproofing and sanitary facilities were brought up to the latest standard.

Architecture is one of the fine arts. Our planning office attaches great value to the role of art in the public domain. This commitment is expressed not only in our efforts to preserve, restore and revitalize buildings of historic and architectural value. We also afford access to works of contemporary art at public places that are open to everyone. In some cases, works of art are acquired for the purpose of displaying them in or near suitable buildings for a wider audience to behold. In others, prominent artists are commissioned to handle the entire creative process from the inceptive design to its implementation.
