If you want to have a formative hand in shaping the future, you have to understand the present and learn from the past.

    Royal

The Stadt Ulm inn stood at this location before it was destroyed in World War II. After the war, the plot accommodated the first of the major Frankfurt cinemas to host premiere showings amidst a sea of sumptuous red velvet. Today the dominant color at Schäfergasse 10 is a fetching green. When the legendary Royal movie house was demolished, the plot near the Zeil shopping promenade was repurposed for a combination residential/commercial building.

The architects opted for a gently undulating façade that pays homage to the folds of the former cinema's curtains. The color scheme is emerald, with a pattern of alternating hues of green in the building's windows and balcony fronts. The two lower floors provide 3,000 m² of retail space. The upper floors feature six spacious apartments and a penthouse with a roof terrace.

The property was awarded the 2012 German Builder's Prize for New Constructions.

Architecture is one of the fine arts. Our planning office attaches great value to the role of art in the public domain. This commitment is expressed not only in our efforts to preserve, restore and revitalize buildings of historic and architectural value. We also afford access to works of contemporary art at public places that are open to everyone. In some cases, works of art are acquired for the purpose of displaying them in or near suitable buildings for a wider audience to behold. In others, prominent artists are commissioned to handle the entire creative process from the inceptive design to its implementation.
